Is my son old enough for scouts?
(ie. He's only in first grade, that's too young for camping.)
Boys are assigned to dens based upon their grade level and the activities for each rank are designed to encourage growth and development through age appropriate activities. For specific information on the badge requirements for each rank, click here.
Cub Scout campouts are family campouts, and both parents and siblings are invited to participate.

Is my son too old to join?
(ie. He's already in 3rd grade and missed his Tiger and Wolf badges, so is it too late?)
-Cub Scout dens are organized by grade level:
| Tiger |
1st Grade |
| Wolf |
2nd Grade |
| Bear |
3rd Grade |
| Webelo |
4th & 5th Grade |
|
New 5th graders are as welcome as the 1st graders. There is no need to 'catch-up' and earn the badges earned in the younger ranks. The boys participate at their grade level, all working towards the same goals. |
You may contact a den leader at anytime.

Do I have to wait until next year?
(ie. We didn't hear about the scouting at the beginning of the school year - isn't it too late to join this year?)
Boys in grades 1-5 can join Cub Scouts at any time during the year. While the Pack hosts 'Roundup' events early in each school year focused on helping new boys learn about and join scouting, you do not have to "Wait 'till next year". The pack schedule events year-round (yes, even in the summer months), so join now so you don't miss any more fun.

Can family members join in scouting activities?
(ie. My son isn't old enough to camp out alone. My son's siblings would feel left out of Cub Scout activities for boys.)
Yes, Cub Scout campouts are family campouts and parents and siblings are welcome to attend. The Pinewood Derby event features special parent and sibling races in addition to the scout races.

When are the meetings?
(ie. We go to football practice, dance lessons, gymnastics, soccer practice, etc. and I'm concerned about conflicting schedules.)
Each den will meet twice per month, with occasional schedule interruptions due to holidays or being pre-empted by other den or pack activities schedule for that week. Once every month, all the dens will participate together in a pack meeting, during which awards will be presented and issues affecting the pack as a whole wil be discussed. Den meetings are Monday evenings; 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Sunset Park Elementary School cafeteria. Please visit our Calendar for a full schedule.
